Rent Roman
June 20, 2008 (permalink)
Scott posted this on his site yesterday. But I'm posting a
link to it today. It's a video on YouTube called
Rent Roman and it stars Jason Zumwalt the voice of Roman Bellic and it's friggin' hilarious.
Check it out!

Hands On the Rain-Slick Precipice of Darkness
May 27, 2008 (permalink)
So I mentioned in the
previous comic that I would review
Penny Arcade Adventures: On the Rain-Slick Precipice of Darkness [
link] at a later time. Well, that later time is now.
Before we begin, you need to know that the
Penny Arcade games are episodic...meaning it's only one small part of larger story. Why? Because the game itself is kind of brief. I've seen online where they mention it takes between 5-10 hours to complete... I finished it in just under five hours myself. And that's with trying to find everything I possibly could and kill it. I know I missed a few things though. As one of the
achievements is to find and kill every possible enemy in the game. And I didn't get it.
Now being an episodic game is just fine. It let's you know that there's more to come in a timely fashion (unless it's from
Valve). But since it is just one of many, I feel the price point of 1,600 Microsoft Points (USD $19.99), or on Windows, Mac and Linux for $19.95, is a little high. 1,200 Microsoft Points would have been better. 800 Microsoft Points would have been ideal. But 1,600 still seems a little high. Especially since you have to pay that price over and over again for the latter episodes. But is it worth it? Um, yes...
Yes, I did enjoy the experience. The artwork is beautiful. The dialog is brilliant. And I did enjoy the game/story from start to end (minus a few minor problems: character movement a little sluggish and being at the right place at the right time to interact with objects can be a little tricky at times). It's an amalgam of the classic point-and-clicks of the '90s and traditional RPGs. It works well together and the writing makes exploring all options of dialog worth it.
Can I recommend it? For
Penny Arcade, fans most definitely. For everyone else, if you like classic RPGs and/or point-and-clicks and good piece of literature... then yes. If classic RPGs and/or point-and-clicks are not your cup of tea... then no. Either way, they're not hurting. The game itself had the third highest launch on XBLA ever [

SumoSac is not one of E. Honda's moves...
May 22, 2008 (permalink)
A while ago, I had the pleasure of reviewing the
Omni lounge chair by Sumo (Even did a
comic about it, too!). Now a year and a half later, I have a brand new honor in reviewing Sumo's latest product: the
SumoSac.
Now, it's hard to review the SumoSac without comparing it to the Omni. Yes, they are both "beanbag" chairs. And yes, they're both made by Sumo. But honestly that's where the comparisons end.
The Omni is still the ideal gaming chair. It's rigid, yet comfortable. But not it's now the number one pick for veggie out or napping. On the other hand, the SumoSac is perfect for just that. Sitting in the SumoSac is like sitting in poof. Poof is soft. Poof is fluffy. Poof is not real but for sake of this posting it is. Poof is the SumoSac.
Honestly, I think both the SumoSac and the Omni are equally necessitated. The Omni for the hours of gaming where you need to be alert but comfortable. And the SumoSac for the leisure time that follows. Where you just want to relax in your own fluffy cloud of poof watching t.v. or taking a nap. While you're at it, throw in a Sumo
Otto to make the holy trifecta complete.

While you're waiting for the next
Dueling Analogs comic there's a funny video on YouTube you should see. It's the opening to
Lupin III but with
Metal Gear Solid characters. It was done well, funny and most impressive since they did most of it with MS Paint.
Check it out... but
watch this first if you are not familiar with
Lupin III.
The Hob Process
May 16, 2008 (permalink)
I know the post is about a month old, but
Aaron Diaz did a wicked entry in his LJ discussing the process that goes into
creating a Hob comic. It's really cool to see someone's creative process... especially when it's 100% digital. One day, one day...
Brand New NES Games
May 6, 2008 (permalink)
RetroUSB.com is one of my favorite sites on the net. Why? Because it's one of the few places that I can get brand new games for the NES. Yes,
brand new games. Games like
Sudoku 2007. Was there even a sudoku title for the famicom? I didn't think it became a big thing until 2005.
Nonetheless, I love the site and own 80% of the games available on there (technically 100% since the one game I really want is
NWC 1990 hasn't been available for a very long time). If you collect NES games like I do
check it out. You also might want to
get these as well if you're a true collector.

A Grand Theft Auto Retrospective
April 17, 2008 (permalink)
We've got a little less than two weeks until
GTA IV is released and I am really anxious to get my copy. And with the prospect of city size
downloadable content I anxiousness is heightened further. So to help distract us for a couple of minutes, our friends at Joystiq created this really cool
GTA Retrospective discussing the history of the series. Enjoy!
